Come one come all to our next Flourish meeting this Wednesday @ 5:30!!
The Flourish! 2008 Conference is only ONE MONTH away! Can you believe it? This means we need TONS of help. If you think you are able to help, PLEASE come to this Wednesday's meeting in the Linux Labs. We will give you a project of your own and you can help contribute to something great. This meeting will not be one to drone on - we need to get things done. I hope for it to be a very active event, where people are motivated to take a piece of the puzzle and run with it. We need a lot of help, and anything you decide to take on for yourself will be greatly appreciated. |

E-WEEK - Feb 18th - 22 2008 -RSVP REQUIRED (to jander22 AT uic.edu)
Workshop 1: Build a Computer Workshop! Tues Feb 19, 2008 @ 5pm in the IT Lab
Have you ever wondered how to build your own Frankenstein machine? How can you put old parts to good use? Why not create a server or your very own Linux desktop or development environment? In this workshop, we will teach the basics of putting a computer together. Materials to work will will be provided, but everything will be dismantled, and it will your job to put the machine together and have it working. Learn to be your own Geek Squad and what is needed in a barebones system. We are in the works of finding a computer we build to be raffled off at this event. Don't miss it!
Workshop 2: Bootable OS on USB! Thurs Feb 21, 2008 @ 5pm in Linux Lab -RSVP REQUIRED (to jander22 AT uic.edu)
In this workshop, we will be installing something like PenLinux on USBs (2 gig available through our fundraiser - please support us!). We will demonstrate how simple it is to customize a PenDrive linux (bootable of course). Students may bring in their own drives or buy them at the door. The key is customization and then marking this mount with a bootable flag. Carry your computer on your keychain! ( I know you all just loved my burst of creativity right there. ;)) What is a bootable OS you ask? Well, just plug it into your USB, and turn on your machine, and the computer will boot from the USB instead of the hard drive. Please let me know if you will be needing a temp cs account for this workshop. |
