  • Chase - Cyberforce Competition work probably won't happen before the start of the semester.
  • Chase - What else did we want to do?
  • Cody - Single-Sign On / Directory Options
    • Keycloak
    • Jumpcloud - Seems to be a PaaS. Need to pay $$$
    • Directory389 - Java
    • FreeIPA - Very “black-boxy” and wants a dedicated box for it's own use.
    • SambaAD - ACM@UIC used to use this before we switched to Microsoft AD.
  • By next meeting, let's plan to decide on which SSO option to use. Do some independent research if you have time.
  • Cody & Chase - Getting into Ansible. Infrastructure as Code.

  • First Summer meeting
  • Created a VM to test on DigitalOcean
    • gate.lug.acmapp.tech
    • Added the users in this current meeting to the virtual machine.
  • Introduced the idea of SSH Keys and public-private keypairs
  • Fail2ban - A utility used to prevent malicious login attempts
  • IPTables/nftables/firewalld - CLI utilities used to interact with nettables for changing network stack parameters.
  • Looking at fail2ban-firewalld, however it was only on CentOS-based systems.

 Welcome slide was presented, advice on how to run group by former president.
 Activities to consider:
   * Cyber Force Competition - Nationwide
   * Def Con convention
   * Wireshark 
   * highjack radio frequencies
   * comptia network A+
 
 Homework: Look up basic information on networks and how they work.

{Second meeting} 02/20/2020

 Went over the basics of network components:
   * Routers/Switch
   * Access Point
   * MODEM
   * Server
   * The Cloud
   * Internal vs external networks and further branching
 
 Had a talk with a senior in LUG/ACM office, talked about working of:
   * Ports
   * VPN
   * Proxy
   * LAN vs WAN
   * Static vs Dynamic IPs
   * Router to router connection programs
   * schematics of routers containing IP addresses
   * Origins of IP from IPv4 to IPv6
 
 Homework: Set up a virtual network in ACM/LUG office
 

{Third meeting} 09/14/2020

 First meeting for Fall 2020:

   * Suggested activities + Readings
 Homework: Read up on provided books - Dummies( 2 chapters) & Set books( SQL and Linux 2-3 chapters)
